WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic Violence can take many forms and includes when another person you are in a relationship with:

  • is physically or sexually abusive, and/or
  • is emotionally or psychologically, and/or
  • is economically abusive, and/or
  • is threatening, and/or
  • is coercive, and/or
  • in any other way controls or dominates you and causes you to fear for your safety or wellbeing or that of someone else.

Relationships covered by the law include:

  • an intimate personal relationship (married, de facto, registered relationship, engaged, couple)
  • a family relationship (a parent, or former parent, of a child, or your relatives)
  • an informal care relationship (where one person is dependent on the other person for help in an activity of daily living like dressing and cooking for them).

HOW CAN I CONTACT YOU?

Or via our contact form on this website

HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP ME?

If you have domestic violence or family law matters in Court or are looking to make an Application for a Domestic Violence Order contact us and we can book you in for a consultation. If you contact us and we are unable to assist for any reason we will refer you to another legal practice, legal aid or a community legal centre who may be able to assist you.

HOW CAN I START WORKING WITH YOU ON MY MATTER?

Contact us and we will book you in for a consultation as soon as possible.

WHY DO YOU USE BARRISTERS? DO THEY COST EXTRA?

We use our panel of Barristers because they are specialists in Court based advocacy. Often Solicitors appear in Domestic Violence Court because the cost of retaining a Barrister is too high and the client is paying for a Solicitor AND Barrister to appear in Court resulting in twice the fee. Our Barristers are comfortable attending Domestic Violence Court 'uninstructed' which means they appear on behalf of our firm but you don't also need a Solicitor to be in Court. This is one of the reasons we can offer such low fixed prices.

DO YOU UNDERTAKE OTHER LEGAL WORK LIKE CRIMINAL LAW?

We do not practice in criminal law (such as when individuals are charged with a Breach of a Domestic Violence matter). We are the first Domestic Violence private law firm in Australia. If you require Criminal Law advice we will refer you to another legal practice, legal aid or a community legal centre who may be able to assist you.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

We offer fixed prices for Domestic Violence and Family Law matters as detailed on our website, however, there are occasionally cases that fall outside of these parameters. When we discuss your matter during our consultation we will let you know if your case falls within our fixed price structure before we proceed with doing any work.

DO YOU UNDERTAKE LEGAL AID WORK?
Yes we are a Legal Aid Queensland Preferred Supplier. Please contact us to see if we can assist.
